Our Beacon of Light in the Dark Stormy Night

Our Beacon of Light in the Dark Stormy Night

FWOC has always been more than just an orientation. While the freshmen were offered a tantalizing taste of what is to come as they embark on their new journey, the seniors saw it as an unbridled expression of a Kentridgean unleashed. But ask any member of the FWOC team, past and present, and they will tell you an entirely different story.

Most Kentridgeans will shun the idea of joining FWOC. This is understandably so, because the reasons are relatively simple and logical – that no one believes that a team of twelve Kentridgeans can slog it out to put together a two week orientation programme within three months.

Indeed, I had been one of the doubters too. It simply did not make sense to me why would we want to have only twelve people on the committee when we could have easily called for more. Indeed, it is sheer madness when it is true that only Kent Ridge Hall has this strangely sardonic practice when other halls will choose to muster more than half of their active residents to plan their respective freshmen orientation projects.

Yet it is our refusal to conform that makes us special. For us, twelve is the magical number.
No one had expected an easy ride. From the earliest conceptualization of the orientation theme to the eventual, long awaited Day-Zero morning briefing, FWOC 07/08 was never just about a journey of working out t-shirt and focus book designs, looking for sponsorships and endorsements, planning and trying out wet and dirty orientation games, writing and editing a 263 page long proposal and integrating meal timings and logistical preparation into an endless myriad of timetables and plans.

It was about the story of a team that was as raw and inexperienced as any FWOC team could have ever been. When we scrambled and were left befuddled, clueless and lost, we learnt to trust and hold each others’ hands as we walked together not as twelve individuals but as a team. When we shed tears and had original plans tattered and thrown into total disarray, our partners picked us up and convinced us that we had the ability to make things right again. We were stubborn, but only because of our refusal to give up on each other and our hopes for FWOC to be a success.

This is the FWOC experience, one that is unique to every batch that had contributed so much into the singular purpose of making their FWOC a success. For the batch of 07/08, it was a life lesson well learnt, a mission well accomplished, and twelve friendships well forged.

Somewhere out there, someone loves you.

I prayed for a random old man today on tv, and I was reminded of this phrase I read somewhere; No matter what, always remember, somewhere out there, someone loves you. I never really believed it, but today, I felt it-- Somehow, sometime, everyone gets a prayer from someone whether they know it or not; whether they deserve it or not. Haha i guess i was having a mountainwings moment! Was never Christian, but I still pray each night and drop random prayers on random people I feel need a little blessing every now and then. Well I guess it's been a habit since my Catholic teachings in Pri sch.

ANyways, Happy Vday to everyone!! To all the singles out there, love is everywhere! Even if u have no special someone, remember, u're loved. (:

Touch Carnival '08!

Whoo! just got back from our Touch Carnival, and we're Second!! Didnt' really fulfil our dream of beating EH, but i guess we did fairly well by winning the rest of the four games of the day! There were really some super cool moves by our girls.

At e match against TH, it was nil-nil all the way til the last attack, when the alarm for game over was bleating away..then at the right wing, Mabel drew two men down to the left, did an overhead pass to Changxi, and Changx our miracle sprinter, sped up, dived and tried!! That was a real heart-popper, Damn nice. And so we won TH this year, 1-0. (:

ALrights. shall blog abt more next time if I muster energy to. Had pizza lunch and gonna nap nowW! zzzzzz~

stupid kid.

Selamat Pagi!! Saya Boleh Pertanya? Di mana anda tinggal? hehe.

Okay that's a little incomplete, but it's smth i learnt at Bahasa today! yayness. glad I'm learning a new language! can't wait to go home on the weekends to talk to my Indo maid AUntie P..it's super fun learning from her, can remember easier!

I hope I can speak fluently after this sem, then i'll be officially tri-lingual! ((:

Anyway, I played better at the friendly with the guys yesterday, and the sense of that little self-accomplishment has cheered me up considerably.. Amazingly it was e first time we played so long--five half games, and against the guys too! Tho we kinda got thrashed like mad. boo. Still got trainings tml and fri too, then sunday would be the big day already! I really really hope Wendy's dream comes true; it'd be our glory too of course!

I went for my second NOC's first interview early this morning, and it was pretty much a breeze, as I'd half-expected it to be. Just worried I can't pass the second round one, esp if Prof Lau's gonna be there. He makes me finicky. Anyway, if i get thru, how weird. I'd be going to SHanghai, and He's coming here. of course it won't make a difference in my life, but I'd still not want to miss a whole year away when the guys are streaming in..and then when i come back i'd only be left with one sem before i Graduate!! so so fast..

btw, i guess the whole "pseudo me" saga is still going on with the younger girl--someone's actually put up my friendster add to tell the rest. I'm kinda disappointed that there's no form of defence on my side (i.e the bf) as til now; maybe he really wants to keep his hands of this matter like myself, but until anything really stupid starts confronting me, I'm just gonna be magnanimous and pretend nothing's happened, and reflect the insults.

THey say those blessed can't be cursed right? It just rebounds. (:

I hate runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnningggg

sighs. just came back from PT..feel damn down lah. even if there's still a cooling berrybaby in the fridge... :((

I looked up while running, up into the moving canopy of trees, and saw a bat fly past the dark blue velvet up above, and wished at that point that I could morph and take its place. Sighs. I'm good at some things, but running ain't one of them man. totally.

Still say wanna run from tonight onwards..zhen shi de. Training with the gals alr so bu zhen qi. RAWR. I hope the cake gives me some happy endorphins.

Lipo is for losers ok. Lipo is for losers. Think THin.

CrummyCheesy BerryBaby!

There'd be no Monday Blues for me this sem, cos Monday's my free day!! *beams*

Of course, I'd obviously be doing something constructive on this day then, cos I shouldn't be starting the week off by bumming around, should I? So. Here's what I worked with this afternoon.. a cheesecake! STrawberry cheesecake to be exact. Yummy!

Okay it was pretty random, because Mindy's mom brought back 6 boxes of ripe strawberries from her Korean supermart, and they're all bursting with ripeness and ready to decompose, so yesterday I thought we'd do a cheesecake cos it's e easiest to do without a stove here in hall! And so we did.

I went down to Shengxiong to get the essentials, and got sis and mindy to do the grinding and mixing of biscuit base and philly cheese with condensed milk.. It was done pretty quickly! We were quite surprised that when we were done, only 2hours had passed..It was fun doing it too, and right now it's sitting in the freezer, waiting for the gelatine to kick in. I practised my BNJ cake deco skills, but they're kinda rusty already..so here's what we came up with! Can't wait for tonight when we reveal our Berrybaby after PT for touchrug! Mmm..what a sin. ((:

haha i'm being bombarded!

Right now i don't know whether i should feel outraged, or laugh at the ridiculous situation that's happening somewhere across the border.

Okay. I admit I have been updating myself on the life of the "other" girl. And something's happened over at her famous blog that's kinda involved me, but I refuse to take part in any of that childish rubbish. I hope the atrocious grammar the intruding party's used will prove his/her identification, and i hold faith that Xm has enough interaction with me in the 3 years to know that my English is so much better.

It's made me reflect, however..on how immature my first relationship was. I guess i was mostly hankering for attention and understanding, while he refused to give it. It's been so much better on my own, and my perspective has cleared immensely..the tiresome relationships i've seen around me has also helped alot..Why keep persisting if he's not the right one? Time is simply a lame excuse. A girl's got so much more to accomplish in one lifetime. Anyway I'm glad he's still his same old practical self, staying out of the entire mess. Just his style.

Well I guess he's got a whole new load to deal with now, now that he's hooked up with a pretty famous online blogger. I'm being innocently bombarded meanwhile, and tho usually I would feel bothered about such a situation, I find myself finding it funny--someone's trying to frame me under the assumption that revealing similar details would mislead the fans to think I was the one spouting rubbish. I'm so glad I've grown out of such childish spites. I don't think I'd ever do that to someone I love (or loved) anyway..

I'm glad he's got someone new and interesting to colour his life..she seems a handful! Well i hope he just doesn't interupt my Uni life when he comes in.. I really can't be bothered.

Taiwan Part I

okayy..finally my long-awaited post about taiwan!! haha things have just been rushing in and there's the bidding for modules and stuff, and I barely unpacked my taiwan stuffs before I have packed off for hall again! anyhoos, just watched the Tennis finals for IHG and there were some pretty moves by the guys! Xiaowei's right. It simply is too easy for any girl to fall for a guy who's good at sports. Same for musically-inclined guys. Too bad I am not just any girl eh? haha okay they had hot butts thats all.

Anyway. Taiwan!! Four days is simply too short! I know I'm going back there sometime again..maybe with sis next time? haha..but pretty worth it I should say, we spent abt an average of $500bucks each, and bought lotsa bags (think about four each) and accessories(i got 3 wallets, a belt, a cap, earrings and a pretty necklace)!! wahaha..we sure can shop despite the wintry weather and lack of Singapore-suitable clothes to buy..

Taiwan Part I

The major places: Ximenting
Felt nothing like the Ximenting I saw on Jacky's show! It is so much more vibrant being there itself, in the heart of taiwan's shopping district, the bustle of the majorly youngster crowd, the bright lights and blingblings of the shops, the delicious-smelling pushcarts which were nervously pushed away when someone shouted "ma tah!".. Pricier tho, the things there--We once went back reluctantly to Shilin to buy a coupla identical wallets charged 200NT less compared to at XMT.. but i love XMT tho, the things there are pretty varied and more to our taste, and theres a VERY good mixture of shopping and food!! which is fab~ ((:

WuFenPu
This was a busybusy crowded street!! A mix of bugis street and Thailand. BUt things are of course more ex, and random hawkers would cart street snacks through the cramped passageway, and lotsa suicidal scooters would weave through the crowd. We got the most from here tho! our bags and some tops--not without a tiring time spent scouring of course. SOo much to look through! That's also where we had really good luroufan(braised pork rice) and heijitang(black chicken soup)!! Daryl look out!! (: it's across the main road and it's v prominent..This restaurant called Famosa, the huge long yellow board with red words and an old man with a beard! must try the soup!! :P~

Shilin
This place, of course, the must-try..most of the pictures i took was from here! haha the food of course. Daryl u must try the guancaiban and awluak and mango ice! I loved those three e most..didn't eat much tho cos we were too full, and just ate like 1/3 of everything so we could try everything, but was so full, i think i ate only one bite of the famous jipai and gave up. Barely tasted it! thats y i say too short la four days, too short! :(

alrites will post up to here first. trying to get my pics into a collage but still taking time! i took 400! and that's just in my cam. some pics here meanwhile: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=16773&id=595186942 haha look out for later posts! will try to reflect more than report! And Daryl enjoy ur six days there thoroughly!! you should go to xindian at the end of the green line of e mrt for cheaper wenquans! (or so i heard from an experienced friend) (:

Tantalising Taiwan~

Flying off to Taiwan tomorrow!!! The Land of Street Treats!! Whoopee!

Chatted with sis til the am.s last night, and she gave me a mental list of all the things i must try and visit! Super excited, i can't wait to go check it out for myself and really looking forward to gg there next time with sis again! haha gawd, i'm not even there yet and i'm already thinking of the next trip!

Well toodles! cya in four days~
